A significant development for the British royal family occurred at the start of the previous month. In celebration of the Invictus Games’ tenth anniversary, Prince Harry touched down in London. King Charles III gave his brother, Prince William, a noteworthy new distinction while he was visiting his native nation. Although the announcement’s timing appeared to be coincidental, many saw it as a significant slight to Prince Harry.
King Charles III has named Prince William the colonel-in-chief of the Army Air Corps, according to a statement from the Palace.
According to the Palace, Prince William has been named Colonel-in-Chief of the Army Air Corps by King Charles III. “His Majesty the King will officially hand over the role of Colonel-in-Chief of the Army Air Corps to His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales,” stated the official statement from the Palace. After His Majesty’s Accession in August 2023, the King was happy to announce military appointments, among them the Prince of Wales’s appointment as Colonel-in-Chief of the Army Air Corps. For thirty-one years, His Majesty the King served in that capacity as Prince of Wales.
Prince Harry was reportedly “in tears when he heard” the news, according to royal analyst Tom Quinn. Quinn continued, “What makes it much worse is that Harry’s brother, the man he holds responsible for a great deal of his troubles, is playing the part. In order to have the biggest impression possible, the news was purposefully delivered during Harry’s brief visit to the UK. It tells Harry that he is truly no longer welcome.
William now oversees Harry’s previous unit in his new position. Harry finished his Pilot’s Selection Board interview and Army Air Corps “Grading” in 2008. He began training to become an Army Air Corps pilot in 2009. Before it was taken down from the official royal family website, Prince Harry’s official biography stated, “After successfully completing that Army Pilots Course, he was chosen to train on the Apache Attack Helicopter.” “Prince Harry’s father gave him his provisional wings, and it was announced that day.” Harry found the event especially meaningful because at the time, Charles was the Army Air Corps’ Colonel-in-Chief.
The announcement of Prince William’s new designation comes during a period of increased public curiosity, partly influenced by the strained relationship between Prince Harry and his father. Speculation about their interactions—or lack thereof—during Harry’s recent UK visit highlights the complexities of royal relationships.
During his visit, Harry and King Charles did not meet due to the king’s “full programme.”
Harry expressed hope to see his father soon. Despite the strained relationships with members of the royal family, Harry conveyed his happiness about returning to the UK, describing the event as “amazing” and praising the work of Scotty’s, a charity that supports children.
“The more opportunity you get to do these kinds of events, the more the families and kids know this place exists, which is really the most important thing,” Harry said, as reported by BBC.
